Frequently asked questions
What is PT-141 Nasal Spray?

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist peptide that works through the central nervous system to support sexual desire, arousal, and satisfaction.1 2 PT-141 Nasal Spray provides brain-targeted, rapid-acting support for signaling pathways involved in initiating desire, arousal, and sexual response rather than affecting blood flow alone.1 2 4

How does PT-141 Nasal Spray work?

PT-141 Nasal Spray may activate melanocortin receptors in the brain associated with sexual motivation and arousal signaling.2 This may help enhance sexual interest, responsiveness, and satisfaction in both men and women.1 2

What benefits can I expect from PT-141 Nasal Spray?

Individual results vary, and benefits are not guaranteed. Some users may experience increased sexual desire and libido, improved arousal response, enhanced sexual satisfaction, and improved overall mood and motivation.1 2 3 Because nasal absorption is somewhat less predictable than injection, your provider may need to adjust your dose to find what works consistently for you.

Usage instructions

What is PT-141?

Sexual response has two sides: physical blood flow and the brain signals behind libido, pleasure, and arousal.5 Most treatments in this category only address the first.

PT-141 Nasal Spray is absorbed through the nasal lining for rapid, needle-free delivery, potentially supporting the upstream brain pathways that initiate desire and arousal—not just the physical response that follows.1 2

The science of PT-141

While sexual wellness is often thought of as a physical experience, desire is generated by signaling pathways in the brain.5 This signaling declines with age, impacting libido, desire, and overall brain health.6 7

PT-141 works on brain pathways involved in sexual desire and arousal.1 Unlike therapies that primarily focus on blood flow, nasal spray delivers PT-141 directly to the brain to potentially act on melanocortin pathways associated with sexual responsiveness, helping support the brain-body connection involved in intimacy.1 2

Frequently asked questions

01 Is PT-141 Nasal Spray the same as Vyleesi®?

Not exactly. Vyleesi is the FDA-approved, fixed-dose autoinjector version of bremelanotide for premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder.1 PT-141 Nasal Spray is compounded and dosed individually by your care team, offering a needle-free option, but it’s used off-label outside that specific FDA approval.

02 How do I use PT-141 Nasal Spray, and how long does it take to work?

PT-141 Nasal Spray is administered directly into the nostril, typically 30 to 60 minutes before anticipated activity. Clear nasal passages help with consistent absorption, so using it when you’re not congested tends to offer more predictable results.

03 How is PT-141 Nasal Spray different from PT-141 Injection?

Both deliver the same active compound and work through the same brain-based mechanism, the difference is the route in and what comes with it. The nasal spray is needle-free and easy to self-administer, but absorption is somewhat less predictable and typically requires a higher dose to compensate. PT-141 Injection tends to deliver more consistent absorption at a lower dose, with the trade-off being a needle. Your provider can help you decide which fits your preferences better.

04 Can men and women both use PT-141 Nasal Spray?

Yes. While Vyleesi’s FDA approval is specific to premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, AgelessRx’s compounded PT-141 Nasal Spray is prescribed off-label to both men and women based on an individual evaluation.
