Getting Started With Your CGM

Getting Started With Your CGM

Whether you’ve been considering a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) sensor or recently purchased one, we’re here to help you make the very most of it!

With your CGM, you now have the power to easily and conveniently track your blood glucose levels at any time. Below are our top 10 tips and tricks for getting started with your FreeStyle Libre Version 2 CGM sensor:

  1. Verify your device is compatible with the FreeStyle Libre Version 2 sensor.
Your device must be NFC-enabled, meaning your device is also able to work with tap-and-go services, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc. For a list of compatible devices, click here.

If you do not have a compatible smartphone or would like to purchase a separate reader, please contact our care team at info@agelessrx.com.
  2. Install and use the FreeStyle Libre Version 2 app on your smartphone.
If you’ve used CGM sensors with us in the past, this is new! Make sure you have the app that is compatible with version 2 in the App Store or in Google Play.
  3. You will not be able to scan your sensor for the first 60 minutes.
Your sensor is still calibrating during this time. Check back in with the app after an hour and you should be able to do your first scan!
  4. Scan at least once every 8 hours for best results.
The CGM sensor will show your blood glucose at the time of scanning as well as your levels from the last 8 hours. If you go more than 8 hours without scanning, you will have gaps in your graph showing your blood glucose levels throughout the day. The more often you scan, the more available data you can capture.
  5. Get real-time glucose readings and record your activities.
At the time of scanning, you can see your blood glucose level and how it’s trending (steady, rapidly increasing, steadily decreasing, etc.). Track food, exercise, and other activities at the time they occur in the app to help contextualize your trends.
  6. Access multiple views of your data.
You can view the following: Daily Patterns, Time in target, Low Glucose Events, Average Glucose, Daily Graph, and Sensor Usage.
  7. Configure alarms on your smartphone.
This is a new feature with the FreeStyle Libre Version 2 app! There are mandatory urgent alerts if/when your blood glucose level drops below 55 mg/dL. You can also set high and low alarms to notify you when you are out of range even when you aren’t scanning your sensor. Finally, you can choose to activate a “signal loss alarm” to notify you when the glucose alarms are not available.
  8. Sensor data is stored in the app for 90 days.
If you would like to download and save your data before the data is automatically deleted, feel free to download a copy on the LibreView website: https://www.libreview.com/

Your data from the mobile app should automatically sync with the LibreView website. Once logged in, click on “Glucose History” on the top of the page. You should be able to download a PDF “Glucose Report” and/or a .csv file with a list of each time you scanned your sensor when you click “Download Glucose Data”.

  1. Share your data with others (optional).
Share your blood glucose data with your healthcare provider or a loved one with the LibreLinkUp app.

While optional, sharing your CGM data with others can encourage and motivate you to implement or maintain lifestyle changes to help keep your blood sugar at optimal levels. As always, please contact your primary care physician or other medical professional for medical advice on lifestyle changes.
  1. To remove your sensor at the end of the 14 days, simply peel it off!
The adhesive is relatively strong. If you still have trouble removing the sensor, try wetting the sensor in the shower as you peel the sensor off. Watch this video for more information.

There is so much that you can do with your CGM sensor! For more information, visit FreeStyle Libre’s website or read more about the CGM sensor with this user guide.
