Storage

To maintain the utmost quality, keep your injection pens in the original container and refrigerate them between 36°F and 46°F. If necessary, you can store an unopened Wegovy® pen at room temperature (46°-86°F). If the medication has been stored below 46°F or above 86°F for an extended time, the solution may become ineffective.

Before using the injection pens, check that the solution is clear and colorless. If it appears cloudy or discolored, call NovoCare Customer Support at +1 (888) 809-3942.

You may safely travel with Wegovy® so long as the above conditions are met while traveling. Be sure to keep your medication in its original container, or keep your pens in a refrigerated travel case for the duration of your trip. Bring your own sharps disposal container if you will not have access to one.

How to use Wegovy®

Wegovy® is taken as a subcutaneous injection, which means you’ll self-inject the medication into a layer of fatty tissue such as your abdomen or thigh. If this is your first time using Wegovy®, please review the Novo Nordisk Wegovy tutorial video before getting started.

Start by selecting where you’ll administer the injection and clean the area.

Next, remove the needle cap from the pen and hold the pen firmly against your skin at a 90° angle (or straight in), then use your thumb to press and hold down the button at the end of the pen.

Hold the button for at least 10 seconds. In this time, you’ll hear 2 clicks. The first lets you know that the injection has started. The second lets you know the injection is ongoing and nearly complete. The yellow bar in the dose window should also start moving. If you don’t hear the first click or see the yellow bar start moving, restart the steps and try to hold the pen more firmly against your skin.

Once you’ve heard both clicks and the yellow bar has stopped moving, slowly remove the pen from your skin. Each Wegovy® pen is single-use, so discard the pen in an FDA-approved sharps disposal container as soon as you’re finished. Never save or reuse your Wegovy® pens.

Titration instructions

Wegovy® is available in 5 different doses: 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg, and 2.4mg.

Each month’s order contains 4 injection pens that are prefilled with your prescribed dose. At the end of each month, you will titrate up to the next highest dose until you reach the maximum dose of 2.4mg per week.

Which dose you are prescribed will vary depending on your health goals, medical history, and whether you were recently taking another GLP-1 medication.

Month 10.25mgOnce weekly
Month 20.50mgOnce weekly
Month 31mgOnce weekly
Month 41.7mgOnce weekly
Month 5+2.4mgOnce weekly

If you forget your titration schedule, you can always check your AgelessRx portal.

If you missed a dose of Wegovy® and your next scheduled dose is more than 2 days away, take your dose as soon as possible. If your next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away, skip the dose you missed and take the next dose when you normally would. If you miss a dose for more than 14 days, your AgelessRx prescriber may recommend that you restart your titration schedule.

Common side effects

Wegovy® has the following side effects: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal (stomach) pain, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia (indigestion), dizziness, abdominal distension, eructation (belching), hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in patients with type 2 diabetes, flatulence (gas buildup), gastroenteritis (an intestinal infection) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (a type of digestive disorder).

  • Drink only water or clear, unsweetened beverages
  • Avoid fried, greasy foods in favor of healthier, low-fat options

This is only a summary of potential side effects and how to address them. For more information, please reference the Mayo Clinic’s Semaglutide resources, or ask your prescriber.

  • Hypoglycemia
  • Kidney problems
  • Gallbladder problems

Your AgelessRx prescriber will weigh these potential risks against your unique medical history when considering a prescription.

Important safety information

Wegovy® should not be used by anyone who has a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome 2 (MEN2), or pancreatitis.

The FDA is currently evaluating whether GLP-1 medications like Wegovy® may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or actions. Though the FDA has found no evidence supporting this risk, patients with a history of suicidal thoughts should not take Wegovy®.

Do not use Wegovy® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant or breastfeed.

Semaglutide may make oral contraceptives less effective. If you’re taking an oral contraceptive, ask your prescriber about potential alternatives before starting Semaglutide, or switch to a non-oral contraceptive.

Though rare, allergic reactions to Wegovy® are still possible. If you notice any shortness of breath or swelling around your face, tongue, or throat after using Wegovy®, stop use immediately and contact emergency services right away. Mild allergic reactions around the injection site are normal and not cause for emergency.

As with any prescription medicine, the dose prescribed is for you and you alone. Do not, under any circumstances, allow anyone else to use your Wegovy®.

FAQs

How does Wegovy® work?

Wegovy® works by imitating the natural GLP-1 hormone in the body that helps manage blood sugar and appetite. GLP-1 helps block glucagon, a hormone that increases blood sugar, and stimulates insulin release from the pancreas after you eat. This slows down digestion and helps us feel fuller for longer.

How much weight can I lose?

Clinical trials have shown that Wegovy® users can lose up to 15% of their initial body weight. For a 200lb individual, that equals up to 30lbs. However, individual results may vary based on your prescribed dose, medical history, and lifestyle choices. For the best results, use Wegovy® with a reduced-calorie meal plan and regular exercise. If you feel that you’re not achieving your expected results, contact your prescriber to see what’s best for you.

How quickly can I lose weight with Wegovy®?

For the best results, Wegovy® should be used regularly for at least 6-12 months with a reduced-calorie meal plan and regular exercise. Clinical trials show an average of 15% weight loss within 68 weeks, or about 15-16 months, with many participants showing up to 8% weight loss within 12 weeks. However, this can vary depending on your health history, exercise level, and diet. Do not abruptly stop taking Wegovy®, as your appetite and weight may return just as quickly.
