Here’s what we’ll cover in this blog post:

  • What Josh Allen does in the offseason
  • Josh Allen’s longevity routine
  • How these strategies can support longevity
  • What we can learn from them

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has always been known for his rocket arm, competitive fire, and fearless playing style. But heading into his eighth NFL season, the reigning MVP is drawing attention for something different: his approach to recovery and longevity.

In past years, Allen admitted his offseason looked pretty relaxed compared to other athletes—and by some measures, it still is. But as Allen approaches 30 years old, he’s made a few key changes to his routine to help maintain peak performance well into his 30s, showing us that even small changes can add up to big gains over time.

Josh Allen’s Longevity Routine

In an interview with Bussin’ with the Boys, as reported by The SportsRush, Josh Allen admits that his offseason routine has traditionally been a little more relaxed than other NFL stars. But that’s changed ahead of his eighth NFL season.

Allen typically limited his offseason to intermittent team sports and throwing drills. Now, he’s expanding his offseason routine drastically with these cutting-edge longevity therapies:

  • NAD+ therapy
Allen openly celebrated using NAD+ treatments to support his recovery and replenish his NAD+ levels, which may start to decline in our 20s and 30s.
  • Infrared saunas
Allen also added infrared saunas to his routine, which athletes use to help muscles relax and speed up recovery. Infrared saunas also help minimize soreness and improve flexibility—key factors to long-term joint and muscle health—and even reduce the risk of age-related diseases.
  • Ozone treatments
Allen confirmed that he tried the 10 pass method of ozone treatments, which reinfuses oxygen-rich blood into the body. While this is still an emerging therapy, researchers are exploring ozone treatments for their potential to boost energy, improve circulation, and stimulate muscle healing.
  • Healthy diet
Though his diet didn’t change in a major way, Allen cut down on butter and dairy and swapped in healthy fats, paying attention to quality foods and clean eating that helps him stay sharp in daily life on and off the field.

Taken together, these approaches show that Allen is thinking beyond game-day performance, investing in strategies that could keep him competing at a high level for years to come. Plus, he did it with only a few key additions, keeping a fairly relaxed offseason that still doesn’t interfere with the things he loves.

Balancing Recovery with Play

Of course, Allen isn’t spending all his offseason in therapy rooms and saunas.

Allen competed in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament, partnering with friend and PGA pro Keith Mitchell to tie for sixth place. Notably, the duo beat out Tom Brady, who was playing with PGA pro Keegan Bradley. This was Allen’s second consecutive appearance in the tournament, and his third overall.

Though he admits he’s “not the best player in the world,” Allen may have stumbled onto one of the key pillars of longevity without even knowing it: purpose. It’s one of the key longevity secrets of blue zones, places in the world where the population more often lives past the age of 100.

“I love to win,” Allen explains. Though simple, this drive for competition gives Allen a reason to wake up in the morning and a rewarding sense of satisfaction. And if his performance is anything to judge by, his competitive fire may keep burning for years to come.

Lessons for All of Us

Josh Allen’s offseason is more than a headline: it’s a sign of a top athlete embracing the bigger picture of health and longevity. Sure, Allen adopted these strategies to extend his NFL career. But the principles of his offseason routine can also help us extend our healthy lives:

  • Prioritize recovery, not just effort
We build longer, healthier lives just as much in downtime as we do in training.
  • Support your body at the cellular level
Don’t just focus on visible gains and big performance: pay attention to what’s going on underneath the skin, too, with treatments like NAD+.
  • Fuel your body wisely
Cleaner food choices can have a major impact on long-term energy and resilience, without totally overhauling your diet.
  • Keep joy in the mix
Whether it’s golfing like Allen, or just spending time with loved ones, make time to do the things you love, as well.

Allen is a reminder that it’s never too early, or too late, to start investing in your future health. By focusing on recovery, nutrition, and balance, Josh Allen is setting himself up not just for a career that lasts, but health that lasts. And we can too. So why not start investing in your longevity today? Your future self will thank you for it.
